Amber Heard is an American actress and model. She has appeared in many films, with the most recent being Aquaman. Born and raised in Texas, she made her film debut in a minor supporting role in the sports drama Friday Night lights (2004) followed by a series of other small roles in television and film. She has also appeared in other films such as Zombieland (2009), the Joneses (2009) and 3 days to kill (2014) among other films. Apart from being an actor, she also engages in activism for causes such as LGBTQ rights and domestic and sexual violence awareness.
Amber Heard was born in Austin, Texas, to Patricia Paige, an internet researcher, and David Clinton Heard, who owned a small construction company. She has a younger sister named Whitney. The family lived outside Austin. Heard’s father broke horses in his free time; as such, Heard grew up riding horses, hunting, and fishing with him. Heard also participated in beauty pageants, although as an adult, she has stated that she could no longer “support the objectification.” Heard was raised catholic, and after her best friend died in a car accident when she was 16, she subsequently declared herself as an atheist. Around the same time, she began reading books by writers such as Ayn Rand, Ray Bradbury, and George Orwell, which made her question society around her. At the age of 17, she no longer felt comfortable in Texas and dropped out of her catholic high school to move to New York City. She eventually earned a diploma through a home-study course. In NYC, she supported herself through modeling but soon moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Heard met actor Johnny Depp while filming The Rum Diary in 2011, and they began living together the following year. They were married in a private civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles on February 3, 2015. Heard filed for divorce from Depp on May 23, 2016, and obtained a temporary restraining order against him, stating in her court declaration that he had been verbally and physically abusive throughout their relationship, usually while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In response, Depp’s lawyer alleged that she was “attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse. Heard testified about the abuse under oath at a divorce court deposition. Evidence of the alleged abuse from her court filings was also published in the media. A settlement was reached on August 16, 2016, and the divorce was finalized in January 2017. Depp paid Heard a compensation of US $7 million, which she donated to the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Following the divorce, Heard dated tech entrepreneur Elon Musk for several months, until early 2018. In early 2019, Depp sued Heard for US$50 million for defamation over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018, which “depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated violence against her” despite it not mentioning Depp or any of the alleged incidences of violence perpetrated by him. Depp has alleged that she was the abuser and that her allegations constituted a hoax against him. In response, Heard said that Depp’s claims were not valid and repeated her claims and evidence, maintaining that Depp was abusive towards her. Her lawyer further stated that Depp was attempting to “gaslight” the world and silence her. She asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed in Virginia where the post was located so that the case could be tried in California (where most of the witnesses resided), but this request was denied.
On 2 Feb 2020, new information was released in audio shared by Depp’s side from a 2015 taped two-hour therapy session. Among other things, Heard allegedly can be heard admitting she hit Depp, then her husband. While there is more to the conversation, the contents of the tape have led to Depp’s fans to see him as the true victim and are calling for #JusticeForJohnnyDepp.
Listening to the conversation via audio given to Daily Mail, it sounds like both acknowledged taking actions in anger at different times, with Amber calling Johnny Depp a hypocrite and both agreeing they need to stop the physical violence before they turned into a crime scene and kill each other. This case is tied to Amber Heard’s op-ed piece about being a domestic abuse survivor which he claimed led to him being fired from Pirates of the Caribbean and this particular conversation centered around a fight Heard allegedly started, her admissions of violence were viewed by Depp’s fans as vindication.
Amber Heard has an estimated net worth of $9 million.
