Lauren Diane Shuler Donner is the wife of Richard Donner. She is an American film producer, who specializes in mainstream youth and family-oriented entertainment. She owned The Donners’ Company with her late husband, director Richard Donner. Her films have grossed about $7.5 billion worldwide, mostly due to the X-Men film series.

Lauren was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 23rd, 1949. She is the daughter of a wholesale distributor and a housewife. She was raised in Cleveland, where she took on photography and frequently went to the movies with a cousin.

Lauren studied film at Boston University, specializing in production and editing. Following the advice of a teacher, she moved to Los Angeles in hopes of entering the entertainment industry.
Lauren Shuler Career
As Donner worked in Los Angeles as an assistant editor of educational and medical films. A chance meeting at NBC headquarters led her to leave her data there. In 1973, the network invited Shuler to a vacation relief program filling in for employees on vacation. She worked on many jobs but decided that the best for her would be as a camera operator due to her photography experience. After being taught about cameras by the crew of The Tonight Show, Shuler asked NBC to work on the local news. Afterward, she freelanced on Metromedia, working on rock concert shoots, sitcoms, and TV movies. Donner was a rare camerawoman in a male-dominated field, being the first woman admitted to the IATSE Electrical and Camera Guild #659.
Donner would then move on as an associate producer, in 1976 joining ABC’s Wide World of Entertainment. After a car accident set her back for several months, she joined Motown Films as a development executive. Her input on the script of Thank God It’s Friday (1978) led her to become an associate producer for that film. Next, she made her television-producing debut in 1979 with the acclaimed Amateur Night at the Dixie Bar and Grill, a television film written and directed by Joel Schumacher in the style of Robert Altman’s Nashville.

Lauren Shuler lost her husband Richard Donner, on Monday 5th July 2021. Speaking to the deadline, she reflected on her relationship with Richard. She said: “He was a great man. I was a very very lucky woman. But he was very sick, so it was time for him to go.”

She further added: “The love for him coming out is amazing. That’s who he was, Pete. He was larger than life and fun and generous, and everybody who knew him loved him, absolutely loved him. I have so many emails and texts — I will never be able to get through them. The outpouring of love. The good news is all this love came out when he was alive, just his attitude and his joie de vivre.” She also reflected on his life saying, He had a really big heart. He was a big guy, he’d wrap your arms around you. You felt love. You felt the warmth. He was giving, he was caring, he didn’t bother with bullsh*t. He was tough when he had to be tough. His crews loved and respected him. He was a great leader, but he also made it fun for them”
The two were married for 38 years. Lauren Lauren said she will have a memorial for him. She said: “I will have a memorial in September at Warner Bros when everybody is back from their vacations. I want to make sure everybody who wants to go can go.”
